Asst Coach Jose Pineda Bio

Jose Pineda is a dedicated coach whose life and playing career are deeply rooted in the diverse soccer culture of the Bridgeport/Fairfield County area.
Growing up in his home country of Guatemala, Jose’s journey with the "beautiful game" began at the age of 4 kicking the ball on the streets with the local kids, thus beginning the lifelong passion for the sport.
In his formative years, Jose first played competitively for the travel team Bridgeport Freedom as a midfielder under Coach Mario Licona. It was here where Jose first discovered that a team can be more of a team and can become a family. The philosophy of playing for each other and doing what's best for the team led to Jose switching to the goalie position when nobody wanted to play goalie. Playing goalie is where Jose first developed his skills to read the flow of the game and be a leader on the field.
Bridgeport Freedom went on to become Bidgeport Premier, with Jose transitioning to Center-Back and Right-Back playing under Coach David Teixeria and Coach Rolando. Bridgeport Premier was a prestigious platform where Jose competed at a high level. In his time with Bridgeport Premier at 16 years old, Jose was exposed to international play first hand at the Disney International Youth Cup.

Starting in all games, he played against local teams and international teams including:
Norway's youth team
Venezuela's youth team
Cayman Islands' youth team

Eventually coming second in the finals on Penalty Kicks.
This experience provided him with a rigorous foundation in discipline, teamwork, and the competitive spirit that he now hopes to instill in the next generation of athletes.

After his time with Bridgeport Premier, Jose continued to play in multiple competitive leagues in Connecticut. Eventually finding his way to SouthWest Futbol Club. Initially a player, it was here where he decided to give back to the sport that brings him so much joy and become a coach, standing alongside Mike Pires and Peter Rivera to give a place for high level competitive players to play and further their path in the sport.

Transitioning from a player to a coach, Jose has carried the lessons of his youth into his leadership style. He views the soccer field as more than just a place for athletic competition; he sees it as a classroom for life. His coaching philosophy is built upon a family-based foundation, emphasizing the importance of strong interpersonal bonds, mutual respect, and a supportive environment. Jose believes that when players feel a sense of belonging and "familia," they are more likely to take the risks necessary for growth and perform at their absolute peak.

Central to Jose’s approach is an unwavering commitment to fairness. He operates with a transparent and equitable methodology, ensuring that every player is given the tools, attention, and opportunities they need to succeed. To Jose, fairness is not just about equal time; it is about recognizing the unique potential in every individual and providing a consistent, honest framework for them to earn their place and reach their goals.

Today, Jose is driven by the desire to give back to the community that raised him, using soccer as a vehicle to build character, resilience, and community pride. Professional, approachable, and deeply invested in the success of his players, Jose Pineda continues to be a transformative figure in local sports, shaping not just talented athletes, but well-rounded individuals ready to face any challenge on or off the field.
